FindHelpNowKentucky

This website describes Kentucky treatment, recovery, and harm reduction programs and their availability to expedite access by those with substance use disorder

For those suffering from opioid use disorder, a major barrier to accessing treatment is difficulty locating programs with immediately availability, whether residential, inpatient, or outpatient. In response, the Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center (KIPRC) and the state’s Department for Public Health and Department for Behavioral Health, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities (DBHDID) created FindHelpNowKentucky.org, a website listing nearly all the treatment programs in the state, as well as many recovery and harm reduction resources. Each treatment program listing describes the type of care provided, the program's policies relating to payment and insurance, and its current availability status. Potential clients using the website can quickly determine which programs fit their needs, their location, and whether new patients are being accepted.

Besides its primary focus on treatment availability, FindHelpNowKentucky provides search tools for finding recovery housingcommunity resources, and obtaining naloxone, the opioid overdose reversal drug, as well as a library of essential information on substance use disorders. A presentation describing the program is here, a press release here, and phone contact information here. An extensive evaluation of the program suggests it has served Kentucky well, and a sister program has been started in Tennessee.

The FindHelpNow website is a big step forward in helping families fight and overcome addiction, making it easier for Kentuckians to find the life-saving help they need.

Evidence of Program Effectiveness

"FindHelpNowKY.org has filled a need for timely access to facilities with available SUD treatment openings in Kentucky. The website may be a valuable resource for health professionals, including primary healthcare providers and social workers, which can enhance clinical workflow by reducing necessary staff time in conducting phone searches and website searches for SUD treatment facilities that are accepting patients and clients at that moment. FindHelpNowKY.org is a promising tool for assessing current statewide SUD treatment capacity vs. SUD treatment need, and for determining the statewide need for attendant health services." - Bunn et al., 2019.
