The Opioid Misuse Resource Map provides a list of interventions at the community level to address the opioid crisis by each state. The list shows a number of opioid-related projects that have been compiled from USDA partners and agencies throughout the US. 

This report describes strategies adopted by state Medicaid programs in using data to address aspects of the opioid crisis, such as identifying outlier clinicians for opioid prescribing and patients with problematic opioid related behavior. The report describes specific programs implemented in several states. 

Using National Vital Statistics System mortality data (2002-2004 and 2014-2016), this study examined associations of county-level demographic, socioeconomic, and labor market characteristics on overall drug mortality rates and specific classes of opioid mortality. 

This is a white paper from the National Governors Association that discusses the history of how states have used emergency powers to provide governors with new avenues to enhance capabilities, coordination, and collaboration across state and local agencies. Guidance is provided to state officials on how to maximize this tool. 

This is a report from the Pew Charitable Trusts that describes patient review and restriction (PRR) programs that encourage the safe use of opioids. There is an emphasis on how providers and health plans work together to implement PRR programs, and several of these programs are highlighted in the document.

This government website provides evidence-based recommendations for opioid prescribing in the DoD and VA healthcare systems to minimize harm and increase patient safety.

This is a toolkit developed by a collaboration between Anthem and National Urban League that provides free, ready-to-use opioid awareness and prevention programs and resources to address youth opioid misuse and opioid use disorder. There is a school-based prevention program tailored to middle and high school students, and guidance and materials on implementing community workshop. 

This is a report from SAMHSA that provides education on opioid and other substance misuse, employing cost-effective prevention strategies and strategies to identify this misuse in the workplace, links to many helpful resources.  

This is a national school-based survey done annually that measures risky behaviors in youth, including substance use and misuse. 

This is an academic paper that summarizes over one hundred community plans to address the opioid crisis in the United States and Canada. These were found in both the peer-review and grey literature. According to this paper, most community opioid-related plans were provincially/state-funded, public health-led efforts that involved an average of seven partners, with law enforcement, healthcare, and public health sectors commonly represented in partnerships.
